For three years, I’ve had the absolute honor of photographing the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce‘s, 28th Annual Distinguished Service Awards! This is an evening filled with anticipation and joy as our community members gather to honor this year’s finalists, recipients, and the Leadership Hardin County Class of 2023. All of which are dedicated professionals, volunteers and civil servants. Events like these are not possible without the effort of many individuals and organizations behind the scenes.
The ” I wish I’d been there” response
Typically event photography is used as method of record keeping. The camera often serves as witness to historic moments in our community. These types of images undoubtably serve a purpose and are cherished for years to come.
As a photographer truly what makes me “tick” is capturing an image that makes someone think “I wish I’d been there”. It could be a wide angle shot of the beautiful venue or the picture perfect pork chops cooked by Mollie Mondays. Its almost always an image of human connection that really invokes this response. So, what I always look for is emotion and interaction, heads turning, hands pointing, laughter. And, above all, the eyes of people fully focused on the moment.
And THATS how you promote an event! Remind participants what a good time they had, and make non-participants promise themselves to go next year.
A heartfelt congratulations to each and every finalist, award winner and my fellow Leadership Hardin County Alumni!
